| THANK-YOU PINS for LEADERS | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Over the years we have tried many ways to say thank-you to the leaders who sign up and help run events on the Saturday of camp. Last year we gave out a thank-you pin for volunteers who helped in the morning and the afternoon. We will be doing this again and we will change the pin every year so that each year will be different. If you help in the morning and the afternoon you will get two. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| REGISTRATION VIA WEBSITE | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| If you register using the web page we hold a spot for you. However you must send in the pre-registration payment also to confirm this. Last year we had units register and then didn't bother to send confirmation money in till after the camp was full. This year I will send them back. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| CHEQUES | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| In the past some American Scouters have written Canadian funds on the front of the cheque. Please do not do this. The banks just send them back to us and we have to write or call you to get a replacement. Thank you in advance for you help. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

| PASSPORTS | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Non-Canadians Entering Canada - When you enter Canada, a CBSA officer may ask to see your passport and a valid visa, if necessary. If you are a citizen of the United States, you do not need a passport to enter Canada. However, you should carry proof of your citizenship, such as a birth certificate, a Certificate of Citizenship or Naturalization and photo identification. If you are a permanent resident of Canada or the United States, you should bring your Permanent Resident Card (the U.S. "green card") with you.

| BRINGING CHILDREN INTO CANADA | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Copied directly from Canada Border Services (http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/pub/bsf5082-eng.html#s2x3
Border services officers are on alert for children who need protection. Children under the age of 18 seeking to enter Canada are classified as minors and are subject to the entry requirements set out under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. A more detailed examination will be conducted for minors entering Canada without proper identification or those travelling in the company of adults other than their parents or legal guardian(s). This additional scrutiny helps ensure the safety of the children. Minors travelling alone must have proof of citizenship. We strongly recommend that they have a letter from both parents (where applicable) detailing the length of stay, providing the parents' telephone number and authorizing the person waiting for them to take care of them while they are in Canada. If you are travelling with minors, you must carry proper identification for each child such as a birth certificate, passport, citizenship card, permanent resident card or Certificate of Indian Status. If you are not the parent or guardian of the children, you should also have written permission from the parent/guardian authorizing the trip. The letter should include addresses and telephone numbers of where the parents or guardian can be reached. |

| LIQUID FUEL POLICY | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Due to the large number of campers and the ever-present danger that comes with liquid fuels,
the following policy will be strictly enforced at the Camporee:
Each Sub camp will have at least 1 area, away from the tenting area, in which ALL white gas, will be stored. Cans MUST be marked with the owners identity. ALL camp equipment which uses liquid fuel will be REFUELLED in this area ONLY! WE SUGGEST ADULTS DO THE REFUELLING! Each area will be equipped with a fire extinguisher. IF you need to use this please report it to your Sub Camp Staff and they will get it replaced. USING THE EXTINGUISHER AS A TOY WILL RESULT IN THE EXPULSION OF THE PERSONS INVOLVED FROM THE CAMPOREE. By removing the liquid fuels from the tenting areas we feel we can better prevent emergencies from starting and better control them if they do. All cooking will be done on PROPANE or WHITE GAS (naphtha). NO GROUND FIRES OR CHARCOAL POTS. Come prepared as this will be enforced. Please do not creatively try to get around the propane and white gas rule. |
||||||||||||||||||||||
| MISCELLANEOUS | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Any and all sling shots, practice swords, Rambo knives, Chinese stars, pellet guns, etc. will be confiscated and NOT RETURNED. It is an offense to bring firearms or ammunition into Canada. Any person found to be in possession of same will be turned over to the Police and charged. Please leave the "GLOW STICKS" at home also. The chemicals in them are toxic if the stick breaks. Possession of fireworks, non prescription drugs or alcohol will result in the expulsion of the offenders. Please don't bring radios of any form including Walkman style. We have had problems with youth bringing CB walkie talkies. We will request that you keep them in your vehicles. Thank you for a safe and natural weekend. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| REGISTRATION NOTE | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Over the years we had a problem with Councils holding up registrations and wanting to register as a contingent. Unfortunately some councils waited too long and some troops were disappointed. Council registrations are not accepted. Units must register individually or you will not get in. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| YOUTH with DISABILITIES or SPECIAL NEEDS | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| It is our intent to open this Camporee to ALL of the youth in Scouting and Guiding. If you or any of your youth have special needs, please tell us your needs. We do have wheelchair accessible toilets on site. We are also willing to do whatever you need to allow the physically or mentally challenged youth in your unit to come. We would appreciate a call as soon as possible ahead of time so we have time to meet your needs. We are hoping to get the golf carts again this year to transport special needs youth around the camp. This worked well in past years. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| CAMP CRESTS, T-SHIRTS, MUGS, CANE PLAQUES ETC. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Enclosed is an order form for this year. Please note that all orders MUST be pre paid. No orders will be processed without payment. A VERY limited supply of Camp crests and shirts will be available at the camp. Shirts will be $13.00 Canadian the day of camp $11.00 if pre-ordered . Order early and save. All prices are quoted in Canadian funds. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| ELIGIBLE CAMPERS | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| We receive a lot of calls asking if youth other than Scout/Pathfinder age youth can come.
The following are eligible for Camp:
|
||||||||||||||||||||||
| Please note that the registraion form asks for a youth contact as well as an adult one.We need this to process your registraion. We will be sending that youth the leader package as well as you. This is as a direct result by the youth for more information, at the youth meeting last year. The youth indicated they liked receiving the package. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| OFFSITE EVENTS | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| It appears that the youth want the offsite events to be worth more on the event cards. To this request we have made all offsite events worth ten points on the event cards. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| INSURANCE INFO | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| DIBC has always tried to keep all leaders and youth informed of any concerns that come up at the Camporee. You may or may not, be aware that the Ontario government has been revamping the health care system in Ontario over the last few years. In the past at DIBC when we have sent youth or leaders to the local hospitals they have been looked after and have not had to worry about any charges or insurance forms until later, if at all. Things have changed. Due to this change we are letting All-American Units know they must have out of country medical insurance on everyone in the unit. I know from personal experience whenever I take my troop to a camp in MI we have always been required to have Blue Cross coverage for every youth and adult. Please check with your local council office on the steps you must take to ensure that this happens. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| SILK SCREEN EVENT | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| We ran a silk screening event last year where the youth could bring a shirt or purchase one of ours and screen their sub-camp on it. We will be running this event again next year. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| SPL AND PATROL LEADERS | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| It appears that the senior youth are not getting enough information the day of the camp. To that note, when the leader who comes to register on camp day, they are requested to bring a SPL or patrol leader with them. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| TROOP PHOTO EVENT | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Over the past two years we at DIBC have been happy to have our troop photo event as a free event. This event runs from 9:30am - 12:30pm and then 1:30pm - 3:00pm. A copy of each group will be printed out on 8x10 (for free) and handed to your sub camp chief Saturday evening. Each year has a different border to represent the camps theme. This event is located near the OPP display by the buildings. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| SHELTER SECURING POLICY! | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Effective since 2001.
All Dining Shelters MUST be secured by screw-type ("Dog Auger") hold downs at EVERY external support pole. If you do not bring the proper auger or have enough of them, additional ones will be available for purchase at DIBC's cost (Approx. CDN$6.00). This is NOT an option. See below. History: Every year, dining shelters are getting larger. In 1999, several shelters were caught by the wind and rolled through the sub-camps, crushing tents and shelters in their path. By luck alone, no one was hurt. In 2000, again several shelters broke loose and crushed neighboring troops' equipment. However, this time, THERE WAS AN INJURY. Thankfully, it was minor, but it was a clear warning that we had to adopt standards. As always, the policies we implement are for safety and security reasons. We are requiring the screw-type augers because they are the only hold-downs we KNOW works in our soil conditions. Thank you for your co-operation. If you have any questions please contact Ron Patterson or your sub-camp chief. |
