Event Area 3 - Bosun Chair Lower

Equipment
  • Main rope 3/4" diameter
  • Brake rope 3/6" polypropylene
  • Chair
  • Pulleys (yellow)
  • Sling
  • Clamps to anchor top of rope
  • Pencil
  • Carpeting to protect tree
  • Large block and tackle set
  • Chain, sling or block and tackle to anchor bottom of line
  • Snowfence and posts
Description and Rules
  • This is a participation event only
  • At least 3 activity leaders; 1 at top of ride, 2 at bottom
  • When each patrol arrives take their name and fill out the record sheet
  • Each patrol will go through the activity in the order on your list
  • The Bosun Chair involves heights and speed, WE MUST BE CAREFUL.
  • Participants will arrive at top of ride. Individually they Will ride on the chair.
  • A safety rope on belt will be placed around their waist in case they fall out of chair. Everyone will wear them
  • A brake line is attached to chair. The chair will travel down the rope by gravity.
  • It will gain lots of speed with heavier people, you must slow them down. To do this with the sole of your shoe stand on yellow 3/16" rope, you can stop them if you wish. Always watch their speed. They have to stop at the bottom slowly.
  • 2 activity leaders catch rider at bottom of ride
  • Do not allow a crowd to form at bottom of rope. They may be hit by incoming riders. When someone has finished ride, make sure they go outside of fence
  • At top of ride the next 4 riders pull the chair back to the top. They grab the brake rope, pull up 15 metres or so and lay it on ground, taking turns
